The Return: United Tai Chi digest 4/15/14

Return

  • Was there something or someone you thought you had lost? A posture in your internal arts practice that you learned once upon a time ago but somehow through a change of attention, focus or intention had inadvertently disappeared?  Finding any of these again helps you with a new sense of appreciation and rediscovery of the joy of movement in stillness, of completing your circles, the stress reduction of an old friend’s company. This re-connecting or returning can sometimes have a sweeter payoff the second time around. The purposefulness of once again aligning in a posture that even though may have been written, sometimes need to be felt or expressed again through re-focused energy. Digesting once again this week, in Part II of Yang 108 the transitions from Cover Cover to Box the Ears for example. The return of many tai chi students this week who had wintered away, or were training with a mentor, or the reunion with a loved one after some time apart. Those have been a recurring theme for this edition of the bi-weekly digest. I hope you have rediscovered something or someone you thought you were missing this week.

  • Wrap-up of recent classes: Rotations around your center axis –maintaining structure and spinal integrity. A few pieces of Golden Lotus Qi gong set, finding connections between Ward Off and our opening bow, kick height questions, and another mention of ‘don’t muscle yourself into an uncomfortable position, relax into it.’  Demonstration of a seated Tai Chi form for a student asking about a long plane trip.  Evening class at the Holistic Health Center a bit of the martial application practice.  Wrist, shoulder and knee warm-ups, Tai Chi Walk and its connection to the opening of 13 Postures, Part II of Yang 108 practice.  Eight pieces of Brocade. Linking the Shoulder Strike and White Crane postures much like our intent for Grasp the Sparrows Tail.
